Lord Vishnu (in dialogue to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Transforming daily consumption into upāsanā by pairing each act with a specific Viṣṇu-smaraṇa (Narasiṁha; Viṣṇu as Gaṅgā’s protector).
Vedantic Theme: Īśvara-smṛti as antaḥkaraṇa-śuddhi; seeing all acts as offerings (karma-yoga flavor within bhakti).
Application: Before drinking (especially sanctified beverages or Gaṅgā-water), pause, recollect Narasiṁha/Viṣṇu, and drink as prasāda with a brief mantra or name.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: river (tīrtha)
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.29.62-65 (act-by-act smaraṇa mapping); Garuda Purana (bhakti/antya-smṛti sections: emphasis on nāma and remembrance at critical moments)
This verse teaches that even simple acts like drinking become spiritually efficacious when joined with mindful remembrance (smaraṇa) of Vishnu, aligning the act with purity and protection.
The Preta Kanda repeatedly emphasizes purification and right remembrance as supports for dharma; such disciplined smṛti is presented as protective merit that steadies the mind and supports auspicious outcomes beyond death.
When taking Gaṅgā-jala (or any sanctified water), pause briefly, remember Vishnu (especially Narasiṁha in protective contexts), and drink with intention rather than distraction.
