Sense-Discipline and Exclusive Refuge in Viṣṇu

This verse states that abandoning genuine responsibility toward the Pitṛs and doing rites only as a hollow formality leads to adverse karmic results, even Naraka, showing Pitṛ-dharma must be sincere and properly observed.
It distinguishes outcomes: one is not led to the Pitṛ-realm when ancestral rites are abandoned or reduced to mere pretense; instead, the soul is said to proceed toward hellish states due to that wrongdoing.
Perform Śrāddha or remembrance of ancestors with sincerity, ethical conduct, and correct intention—avoiding token gestures—so that ritual aligns with dharma and compassion rather than social display.
