આ સંક્ષિપ્ત અથર્વવેદીય સૂક્ત યજમાનને અગ્નિના સદા નવપલ્લવિત સાન્નિધ્યમાં સ્થિર કરીને આયુષ્ય અને સમૃદ્ધિ સુનિશ્ચિત કરે છે—“પ્રાચીન છતાં નવો” એવા હોતૃ રૂપે, જે પોતાને અને ઉપાસકને પણ પોષે છે, અગ્નિનું સ્તવન કરે છે. ત્યારબાદ તે અપોત્રોપાયક ભાવ ધારણ કરી, યમસંબંધિત પ્રાણછેદક શક્તિઓથી તથા ગૃહવ્યવસ્થાને વિક્ષેપિત કરી શકે એવા જન્મ/કાળસંબંધિત અશુભ પ્રભાવોથી રક્ષણ માગે છે; જેથી મનુષ્ય દુર્ભાગ્યને પાર કરીને “સો શરદઋતુઓ” સુધી જીવી શકે.

दीर्घायुः प्राप्तिः। प्र॒त्नो हि कमीड्यो॑ अध्व॒रेषु॑ स॒नाच्च॒ होता॒ नव्य॑श्च सत्सि । स्वां चा॑ग्ने त॒न्वं पि॒प्राय॑स्वा॒स्मभ्यं॑ च॒ सौभ॑ग॒मा य॑जस्व

દીર્ઘાયુની પ્રાપ્તિ. પ્રાચીન છે તે—યજ્ઞોમાં સ્તુત્ય; સનાતન હોતૃ અને છતાં સદા નવો બની બેઠો છે. હે અગ્નિ, તારી પોતાની તનુને પોષ; અને અમારા માટે યજન દ્વારા સૌભાગ્ય અહીં લાવી આપ.

ज्ये॒ष्ठ॒घ्न्यं जा॒तो वि॒चृतो॑र्य॒मस्य॑ मूल॒बर्ह॑णा॒त् परि॑ पाह्येनम्। अत्ये॑नं नेषद् दुरि॒तानि॒ विश्वा॑ दीर्घायु॒त्वाय॑ श॒तशा॑रदाय

યમના વિચ્છેદકથી જન્મેલી, જ્યેષ્ઠઘ્ની—મોટાને ઘાત કરનારી—અને મૂળને ઉખેડી નાખનારી તે શક્તિથી, તેને સર્વ તરફથી રક્ષ. જેથી તે સર્વ દુર્ઘટનાઓને પાર કરી જાય—દીર્ઘાયુ માટે, સો શરદઋતુઓ સુધી જીવવા માટે.

व्या॒घ्रेऽह्न्य॑जनिष्ट वी॒रो न॑क्षत्र॒जा जाय॑मानः सु॒वीरः॑ । स मा व॑धीत् पि॒तरं॒ वर्ध॑मानो॒ मा मा॒तरं॒ प्र मि॑नी॒ज्जनि॑त्रीम्

વાઘ્રે-અહ્નિ (વાઘ્ર-દિવસે) નક્ષત્રજ—નક્ષત્રથી જન્મેલો—વીર જન્મ્યો, સુવીર (સારા વીરપુત્રોવાળો) બનીને. તે વધતો જાય ત્યારે મારા પિતાને ન મારે; અને જનિત્રી એવી મારી માતાને કોઈ રીતે પણ હાનિ ન પહોંચાડે.
