Prastāra-nirūpaṇa — Explanation of Prastāra (Tabulation/Matrix of Metres)
આ અધ્યાયમાં ભગવાન અગ્નિ ગાથાને આધાર બનાવી ‘પ્રસ્તાર’ને છંદોના તમામ સંભવિત રૂપોની નિયમબદ્ધ ગણના-પદ્ધતિ તરીકે સ્થાપિત કરે છે. ક્રમ ઉત્પન્ન કરવો અને સરખામણી કરવી, તેમજ નષ્ટ (સૂચકાંકથી છંદ-રૂપનું ઉલ્ટું નિર્ધારણ) અને ઉદ્દિષ્ટ (આગળ વધીને ક્રમવાર ગણના) પ્રક્રિયાઓ, સમ/વિષમ નિયમો, અર્ધીકરણના પગલાં અને ગણતરીમાં સુધારાઓ સમજાવવામાં આવ્યા છે. પછી મેરુ-પ્રસ્તાર (પાસ્કલ સમાન ગોઠવણી) સાથે તેનો સંબંધ બતાવી ‘છંદનો સાર’ કહે છે—સંખ્યા દ્વિગુણી કરીને એક ઘટાડવી, અને અધ્વા/અંગુલ ઉપમાથી આરોહ-અવરોહ ક્રમે ગણતરીનાં ફળ મેળવવા. આ સંયોજનવિદ્યાને પવિત્ર વ્યવસ્થા તરીકે દર્શાવી, પાઠશુદ્ધિ અને તમામ અનુમોદિત છંદ-રૂપોનું પદ્ધતિબદ્ધ જ્ઞાન સુનિશ્ચિત થાય છે।
