Chandaḥ-sāra (छन्दःसारः) — Essence of Metres (Prosody), Chapter 329
ભગવાન અગ્નિ ‘છન્દઃસાર’માં ‘પાદ’ને છન્દોનું મૂળ એકમ ઠરાવી, આપદ-પૂરણ (અક્ષર/માત્રા-પૂર્તિ) પવિત્ર વર્ગીકરણથી કેવી રીતે નિયંત્રિત થાય છે તે સમજાવે છે. છન્દપ્રકાર મુજબ અક્ષર-નિવેશની દેવતા-સંગતિ આપે છે—ગાયત્રીમાં વસુ, જગતીમાં આદિત્ય, વિરાજમાં દિશાઓ. પછી એકપાદથી ચતુષ્પાદ સુધીના છન્દ, ત્રિપાદના અપવાદો, અને બદલાતી અક્ષરસંખ્યા (સપ્તાક્ષરી પાદ સહિત) વર્ણવે છે. નિવૃત, નાગી, વારાહી; ઉષ્ણિક, પરોષ્ણિક, અનુષ્ટુભ; મહાવૃહતી; પઙ્ક્તિ-પ્રકાર ભંડિલ વગેરે નામિત છન્દો અને ઉપભેદોનું સર્વેક્ષણ, તેમજ વૃહતીના આગળ/મધ્ય/ઊર્ધ્વ વિન્યાસો અને દિશાત્મક ‘નવકા’ પ્રવેશો પણ છે. અગ્નિ છન્દોને દેવતા, ષડ્જાદિ સ્વર, વર્ણ અને ગોત્ર-સંજ્ઞાઓ સાથે જોડીને છન્દશાસ્ત્રને ધર્મસંગત વિદ્યા બનાવે છે. અંતે ન્યૂન/અધિક અક્ષર (અવરાટ/અધિક) દોષનિદાન અને પાદ-દેવતા-ક્રમથી સંશય નિવારણની રીત આપે છે.
