स च नामप्रपञ्चस्तु चतुर्द्धा भिद्यते किल । ध्वनिर्वर्णाः पदं वाक्यमित्यास्पदचतुष्टयम्

sa ca nāmaprapañcastu caturddhā bhidyate kila | dhvanirvarṇāḥ padaṃ vākyamityāspadacatuṣṭayam

Et cette prolifération des noms se divise en vérité en quatre : le son (dhvani), les lettres/phonèmes (varṇa), le mot (pada) et la phrase (vākya) — tels sont les quatre supports.
