Types of Bhasma and the Method of Wearing Tripuṇḍra
उद्धूलनं त्रिपुंड्रं च श्रद्धया नाचरन्ति ये । तेषां नास्ति शिवज्ञानं कल्पकोटिशतैरपि
uddhūlanaṃ tripuṃḍraṃ ca śraddhayā nācaranti ye | teṣāṃ nāsti śivajñānaṃ kalpakoṭiśatairapi
Ceux qui ne pratiquent pas avec foi l’onction de cendre sacrée (uddhūlana) ni ne portent les trois lignes du Tripuṇḍra — en eux ne s’éveille pas la vraie connaissance de Śiva, fût-ce en des centaines de crores de kalpas.

Significance: Links omission of bhasma/tripuṇḍra to epistemic consequence: absence of Śiva-jñāna across vast cosmic time, implying that right ācāra and śraddhā are gateways to knowledge and grace.

It teaches that Shiva-jñāna is not merely intellectual; it matures through śraddhā expressed in Shaiva discipline, including bhasma-uddhūlana and Tripuṇḍra, which purify ego and orient the devotee to Pati (Shiva) as the supreme refuge.
Bhasma and Tripuṇḍra are outward signs of inner surrender used in daily Linga-worship; they sanctify the body as a temple of Saguna Shiva and support steady devotion that ripens into true realization of Shiva.
Apply sacred ash (vibhūti) with faith as uddhūlana and wear the Tripuṇḍra; do so as a daily Shaiva observance alongside mantra-japa (especially the Panchakshara, Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and Linga-pūjā.
