Inquiry into Paśu, Pāśa, and Pati
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It teaches Shiva’s omnipresence and omniscience: the Lord as Pati pervades all directions, seeing and sustaining all, guiding the bound soul (paśu) toward liberation by His grace.
Though the Liṅga appears localized for worship, it signifies the all-pervading Shiva; the devotee honors the visible Saguna symbol while realizing the same Lord is present everywhere as the inner ruler.
During japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), meditate that Shiva is ‘all-eyed and all-faced’—present in every direction—supporting dhyāna, Tripuṇḍra-bhasma remembrance, and steady inward devotion.
