Comme saisie par la peur, la Terre trembla et vacilla ; et le grand océan lui aussi se souleva en tumulte, ses vastes vagues et ses tourbillons se heurtant avec violence.

The trembling of Earth and the churning ocean symbolize the instability of the bound world (pāśa) when divine power manifests; in Shaiva Siddhanta, true fearlessness arises by taking refuge in Pati (Śiva), the unshaken Lord beyond cosmic agitation.
When creation itself appears disturbed, the Linga stands as the stable, worshipful sign of Saguna Śiva within the world—inviting devotees to anchor mind and devotion in Śiva rather than in fluctuating phenomena.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with steady breath and mind, along with simple Śiva-upāsanā (water offering to the Linga); the practice cultivates inner steadiness when outer conditions feel turbulent.
