दक्षस्य रुद्रनिन्दा-निमित्तकथनम् / The Cause of Dakṣa’s Censure of Rudra
तेनैवं व्याहृतो दक्षो रुद्रेणामिततेजसा । स्वायंभुवीं तनुं त्यक्त्वा पपात भुवि दुःखितः
tenaivaṃ vyāhṛto dakṣo rudreṇāmitatejasā | svāyaṃbhuvīṃ tanuṃ tyaktvā papāta bhuvi duḥkhitaḥ
Ainsi interpellé de la sorte par Rudra, à l’éclat sans mesure, Dakṣa—abandonnant son état corporel de Svāyambhuva (Prajāpati né de lui-même)—tomba sur la terre, accablé de chagrin.

Sthala Purana: Rudra’s address precipitates Dakṣa’s fall: the ‘body’ tied to Svāyambhuva status is relinquished, showing that pride in office and ritual rank is dissolved by the Lord’s saṃhāra—making space for eventual correction and grace.
Significance: Instills humility: even Prajāpati-status collapses before Rudra; devotees seek refuge in Śiva to be freed from ego and karmic identity.

It shows the collapse of ritualistic pride before Rudra’s boundless tejas. In a Shaiva Siddhanta sense, the pashu (individual soul) bound by pasha (ego, karma, delusion) falls into suffering until it turns toward Pati (Shiva) with humility and surrender.
Rudra here appears as Saguna—personally confronting Daksha—yet His authority points to the transcendent Lord who cannot be controlled by yajña-ego. Linga-worship symbolizes approaching Shiva as the supreme Pati beyond status and pride, with reverence rather than entitlement.
The takeaway is humility in worship: perform japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and offer devotion with inner purity. If practicing external rites, keep them aligned with bhakti (not self-importance), optionally supported by tripuṇḍra-bhasma and Rudrākṣa as reminders of surrender to Rudra.
