Les hommes les plus pécheurs, qui châtrent les taureaux, les poussent et les tourmentent, et font même peiner des vaches stériles comme bêtes de somme, sont voués aux enfers les plus effroyables.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
The verse teaches that cruelty and exploitation—especially acts that violate dharma and cause needless suffering—create severe karmic bondage (pāśa) and lead to painful results, opposing the Shaiva ideal of purity, compassion, and self-restraint on the path toward Shiva (Pati).
Linga-worship in the Shiva Purana is not merely ritual; it requires dharmic conduct. This verse underscores that devotion to Saguna Shiva must be supported by ahimsa and righteous livelihood—otherwise worship becomes hollow and cannot purify the pashu (bound soul).
Adopt ahimsa as a vrata (ethical vow) alongside Shiva-upasana—daily japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namah Shivaya) with a repentant, disciplined mind, and offerings made through non-violent, dharmic means.
