देवस्तुतिवर्णनम् (Deva-stuti-varṇana) — “Description of the Gods’ Hymn/Praise”
अन्योन्यं प्रेक्ष्य शक्राद्या बभूवुश्चातिविह्वलाः । प्रोचुर्विकलवाक्यं ते धिक्कुर्वन्तो निजं विधिम्
anyonyaṃ prekṣya śakrādyā babhūvuścātivihvalāḥ | procurvikalavākyaṃ te dhikkurvanto nijaṃ vidhim
Se regardant les uns les autres, Indra et les autres dieux furent saisis d’un profond désarroi. D’une voix brisée et hésitante, ils parlèrent, condamnant leur propre conduite et blâmant leur propre dessein.

The Devas’ agitation highlights the limits of worldly power; in the Shiva Purana, stability is regained by taking refuge in Saguna Shiva—often approached through Linga worship—as the accessible form of the supreme Lord who restores order.
A practical takeaway is to shift from panic to śaraṇāgati (refuge) by japa of the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” ideally with tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and rudrāksha to steady the mind.
