गजासुरतपः–देवलोकक्षोभः
Gajāsura’s Austerities and the Disturbance of the Worlds
गजासुर उवाच । यदि प्रसन्नो दिग्वासस्तदा दित्यं वसान मे । इमां कृत्तिं महेशान त्वत्त्रिशूलाग्निपाविताम्
gajāsura uvāca | yadi prasanno digvāsastadā dityaṃ vasāna me | imāṃ kṛttiṃ maheśāna tvattriśūlāgnipāvitām
Gajāsura dit : « Ô Digvāsas, Seigneur vêtu des directions, si Tu es satisfait, alors, ô Seigneur semblable à Āditya, revêts cette peau qui est mienne ; ô Maheśāna, cette peau a été purifiée par le feu de Ton trident (triśūla). »

It portrays ātma-nivedana (total self-offering): even an asura, when humbled, seeks Śiva’s grace by surrendering the very “I-ness” symbolized by his own hide—placing ego and possession into the Lord’s hands.
The verse emphasizes Saguna Śiva—Digvāsas, Maheśāna—who responds to devotion in personal form. In Liṅga worship, the same principle applies: offerings are outward signs of inner renunciation and turning the self toward Pati (Śiva).
The takeaway is inner surrender while worshipping: offer the sense of “mine” (mamatā) into Śiva through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and a simple bhāva of self-offering during pūjā or dhyāna.
