Gajāsura’s Austerities and the Disturbance of the Worlds
यन्नेत्रयोः पिंगलिमा तथा तरलिमा पुनः । विद्युताः नोह्यतेऽद्यापि सोऽयं स्माऽऽयाति सत्वरम्
yannetrayoḥ piṃgalimā tathā taralimā punaḥ | vidyutāḥ nohyate'dyāpi so'yaṃ smā''yāti satvaram
Cette lueur fauve dans ses yeux, et encore cet éclair frémissant et instable—aujourd’hui encore, on ne peut le soutenir, tel la foudre. Voyez : il est venu, oui, avec hâte.
Suta Goswami (narrating the battle account to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Kālabhairava
Shakti Form: Kālī
Role: destructive
Cosmic Event: Lightning/vidyut imagery as omen of imminent violent encounter; ‘arrival’ marks a turning point in the battle narrative.
The verse highlights Shiva’s tejas (divine radiance) as overwhelming yet grace-filled—an encounter that shatters ordinary perception and turns the mind from worldly fear toward reverent surrender, a key Shaiva Siddhanta movement from pasha (bondage) to refuge in Pati (the Lord).
It emphasizes Saguna Shiva—His perceivable, awe-inspiring presence. In Linga worship, the same ungraspable power is approached through a sanctified symbol, allowing devotees to reverence that lightning-like divinity safely through mantra, abhisheka, and disciplined devotion.
A practical takeaway is tejas-dhyana with the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya): visualize Shiva’s radiant presence, then steady the mind with japa; support it with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and rudrāksha as reminders of detachment and Shiva-centered awareness.
