Bāṇāsura’s Wrathful Command and the Onset of Battle at the Inner Palace
Suta Goswami (narrating the Rudrasaṃhitā Yuddhakhaṇḍa dialogue to the sages, conveying the battle-ethic expressed in the episode)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Rudra
It upholds dharma as steadfast right action: for one born to protect society, fearlessness and facing consequences directly is praised, while cowardly self-preservation is censured—an ethic that, in Shaiva Siddhanta, becomes inner courage grounded in surrender to Shiva (Pati).
Saguna Shiva as the Lord of dharma strengthens the devotee’s resolve to act rightly without collapse into despair; worship of the Linga trains the mind toward steadiness and fearlessness, so one meets life’s battles ‘face to face’ with Shiva as the inner support.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Panchākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") to stabilize courage and clarity before difficult duties; applying Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) with remembrance of Shiva can reinforce detachment from fear and shame.
