Type: stotra
Role: teaching
The verse declares Shiva as the independent Supreme (Pati): untouched by delusion, unborn, and transcendent—ruling over māyā and surpassing both nature (prakṛti) and the bound soul (puruṣa). Realizing Him as the ever-free Lord is presented as the ground of liberation.
Although Shiva is described as beyond all categories (parātpara), the Shiva Purana typically directs devotees to approach this transcendent reality through saguna worship—especially the Śiva-liṅga—where the formless Supreme is honored in a form accessible to devotion and ritual.
Meditate on Shiva as māyādhīśa (Lord of māyā) while repeating the Pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—with steady bhakti; this aligns the mind away from prakṛti’s deluding pull and toward the self-luminous, independent Lord.
