The Account of Śaṅkhacūḍa’s Slaying
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Type: stotra
Offering: pushpa
The verse highlights the Shaiva ethical ideal that true spiritual power is expressed through humility and devotion—listening attentively, recognizing the divine presence, and responding with sincere namaskāra and stuti.
Though the verse mentions Viṣṇu, the practice it models—seeing the Lord ‘before one’ and offering repeated praise—mirrors Saguna upāsanā central to Śaiva worship, where the devotee approaches Śiva (often as the Liṅga) with reverence, prostration, and hymns to invoke grace (anugraha).
A practical takeaway is daily bhakti-sādhana: begin worship with śravaṇa (hearing sacred counsel), then perform praṇāma, and offer repeated stuti/japa—especially Pañcākṣarī japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with a steady attitude of surrender.
