Jalandhara’s Māyā in the Battle with Śiva
Sūta Gosvāmi (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Type: stotra
Role: destructive
Mahādeva’s laughter shows His inner transcendence (unshaken awareness), while His “supreme wrath” reveals His compassionate, dharma-protecting power that removes adharma and restores cosmic order.
The verse highlights Saguna Śiva—active, responsive, and protective—who, though inwardly beyond agitation, outwardly manifests power to subdue evil; this supports devotional worship where the Liṅga signifies the same Supreme who can both bless and restrain.
Meditate on Śiva as both serene and protective by japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), cultivating fearlessness and surrender; offer bhasma (tripuṇḍra) as a reminder that ego and malice are reduced to ash.
