अध्याय १७ — देवपलायनं, विष्णोः प्रतियुद्धं, जलंधरक्रोधः
Devas’ Rout, Viṣṇu’s Counterattack, and Jalandhara’s Wrath
आगतं तस्य तं बाणं दृष्ट्वा दैत्यो महाबलः । छित्त्वा बाणेन विष्णुं च जघान हृदये द्रुतम्
āgataṃ tasya taṃ bāṇaṃ dṛṣṭvā daityo mahābalaḥ | chittvā bāṇena viṣṇuṃ ca jaghāna hṛdaye drutam
Voyant cette flèche fondre sur lui, le Daitya d’une grande puissance la trancha aussitôt de son propre trait, puis frappa promptement Viṣṇu en plein cœur. Du point de vue du Śaiva Siddhānta, cet épisode souligne que toutes les puissances cosmiques, sur le champ de bataille, sont subordonnées à la volonté ordonnatrice suprême de Śiva : même la vaillance de Viṣṇu apparaît comme dépendante, et le drame du conflit sert au déploiement de la souveraine gouvernance (Pati) de Śiva sur tous les êtres et toutes les forces.
