Description of the Burning of Tripura
Sūta Gosvāmī (narrating the scene; the verse describes a devotee addressing Śiva mentally)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga passage. The verse foregrounds mānasa-upāsanā: the devotee ‘addresses’ Mahādeva inwardly, indicating interiorization of worship as a means toward grace.
Significance: Supports the Purāṇic-Siddhānta teaching that inner devotion (mānasa-pūjā/dhyāna) is efficacious even when outer ritual is impossible—especially at liminal moments.
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It highlights parā-bhakti (supreme devotion) where the devotee’s attention becomes one-pointed on Mahādeva, and prayer arises from the heart—showing that inner surrender and focused remembrance are central to Śiva’s grace.
By “gazing upon Mahādeva” and then speaking mentally, the verse reflects saguna-upāsanā supported by manasa-pūjā: one beholds Śiva (often through the Liṅga or a form) and completes worship inwardly through contemplative address and devotion.
Manasa-japa and manasa-pūjā: sit facing Śiva (Liṅga or image), fix the gaze and mind steadily, and repeat “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with heartfelt words internally, offering mental flowers, water, and reverence.
