नारदस्य विष्णूपदेशवर्णनम् — Nārada and Viṣṇu: Instruction after Delusion
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Frames Śiva-nāma as the decisive instrument that cuts the root of bondage (pāśa) rather than merely trimming its branches—emphasizing karmic root-destruction through grace.
Type: panchakshara
Role: liberating
It teaches that the deepest cause of bondage—root-level pātakas that sustain saṃsāra—can be cut down through sincere remembrance and repetition of Śiva’s Name, emphasizing bhakti as a direct purifier and liberator.
Nama-japa is a Saguna practice: the devotee approaches Śiva through His accessible form as ‘Śiva’ and through Linga-worship, where the Name, form, and devotion work together to dissolve karmic impurities and turn the mind toward Śiva.
Daily Śiva-nāma japa—especially the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—performed with steadiness and devotion; it may be paired with simple Linga-pūjā and mindful repentance to uproot sin and habitual bondage.
