नारदमोहवर्णनम् — Description of Nārada’s Delusion
स्वरूपं देहि मे नाथ सेवकोऽहं प्रियस्तव । वृणुयान्मां यथा सा वै श्रीमती क्षितिपात्मजा
svarūpaṃ dehi me nātha sevako'haṃ priyastava | vṛṇuyānmāṃ yathā sā vai śrīmatī kṣitipātmajā
«Ô Seigneur, révèle-moi ta forme véritable. Je suis ton serviteur et l’aimé de ton cœur. Fais que Śrīmatī, l’illustre fille de la Terre, m’accepte, comme elle accepta celui qu’elle choisit.»
A devotee-supplicant addressing Lord Shiva (within the Sṛṣṭikhaṇḍa narrative, likely voiced through the Purāṇic narration of Sūta to the sages).
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Mantra: svarūpaṃ dehi me nātha sevako'haṃ priyastava | vṛṇuyānmāṃ yathā sā vai śrīmatī kṣitipātmajā
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
The verse is a direct plea for Śiva’s anugraha (grace): the devotee asks for revelation of Śiva’s svarūpa and for acceptance into His closeness, highlighting bhakti and surrender as the doorway to divine vision and liberation.
Requesting “svarūpa” points to experiencing Śiva as manifest (saguṇa) through darśana—classically approached in Purāṇic practice via Liṅga-worship, where the formless is honored through a sacred form that bestows grace to the devotee.
A practical takeaway is to perform daily Liṅga-pūjā with the attitude of service (sevā-bhāva), repeating the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” while praying for Śiva’s darśana and inner acceptance (śaraṇāgati).
