सेवातत्त्वप्रश्नः — The Question of Whom to Serve (Sevā) for the Removal of Suffering

Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Sthala Purana: Not tied to a Jyotirliṅga; it teaches that deva-arcana purifies the embodied being, enabling jñāna and culminating in vijñāna (realized knowing).
Significance: General: worship as inner tīrtha—purifies antaḥkaraṇa, ripens bhakti, and makes one fit for Śiva-jñāna.
Role: nurturing
Offering: pushpa
It teaches that disciplined worship purifies the embodied condition, and from that purity arises jñāna (right understanding), which matures into vijñāna—direct, lived realization leading toward liberation under Shiva’s grace.
In Shaiva practice, worship of Saguna Shiva (often through the Shiva Linga with mantra, abhisheka, and upacharas) purifies body and mind; this inner cleansing becomes the basis for jñāna and culminates in vijñāna—experiential certainty of Shiva as Pati (the Lord).
It implies samyag-arcana (proper puja): clean living, ritual purity, mantra-japa (especially Panchakshara, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), and steady devotional worship—so that purification ripens into insight and realization.
