The Devas’ Petition and the Cause for Slaying Asuras
Lord Shiva (Rudra)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Type: stotra
Offering: pushpa
The verse teaches that sincere stuti (devotional praise) settles the mind (prasanna-dhī) and invites Shiva’s grace, making the seeker fit to state their purpose and receive guidance.
It reflects Saguna worship: devotees approach Shiva with hymns and reverence, and Shiva responds personally, asking their intention—showing that devotion leads to an accessible, compassionate encounter with the Lord.
Offer stotra/japa with a calm, focused mind—such as Panchākṣarī japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”)—so the intellect becomes prasanna (clear), enabling prayer, vow, or request to be made rightly.
