विष्णोर्दर्शनं स्तुतिश्च
Viṣṇu’s Manifestation and Brahmā’s Hymn
किं जातं ते महद्दुःखं मदग्रे तद्वदाधुना । शमयिष्यामि तत्सर्वं नात्र कार्य्या विचारणा
kiṃ jātaṃ te mahadduḥkhaṃ madagre tadvadādhunā | śamayiṣyāmi tatsarvaṃ nātra kāryyā vicāraṇā
Quel grand chagrin t’est-il advenu ? Dis-le-moi maintenant, ici devant moi. Je l’apaiserai et l’ôterai tout entier ; nul besoin de doute ni de plus ample délibération.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: No jyotirliṅga; the verse is a direct assurance of duḥkha-śamana. In Siddhānta terms, it exemplifies anugraha: the Lord’s compassionate intervention that quiets the paśu’s distress and turns it toward right knowledge and refuge.
Significance: Recitation as āśvāsana (consolation) verse: reinforces faith that the Lord’s grace removes affliction when one discloses suffering without concealment (madagre… vada).
Role: liberating
It highlights Shiva’s role as Pati—the compassionate Lord who directly receives the devotee’s sorrow and promises inner pacification, encouraging surrender rather than anxious overthinking.
The verse reflects Saguna Shiva’s accessible grace: devotees can approach Shiva (including through Linga-worship) with their pain, trusting that the Lord who is worshipped will also actively calm and remove suffering.
A practical takeaway is to place one’s grief before Shiva through japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namah Shivaya) and simple prayerful submission; mental agitation is to be calmed by remembrance of Shiva’s assurance.
