Menā’s Counsel to Himālaya; Response to Slander of Śiva
उद्वाहं कर्तुमिच्छामि तत्पुत्र्या सह सत्तमाः । स्वीकृतस्त द्विवाहो मे वरो दत्तश्च तादृशः
udvāhaṃ kartumicchāmi tatputryā saha sattamāḥ | svīkṛtasta dvivāho me varo dattaśca tādṛśaḥ
«Ô le meilleur des nobles, je désire accomplir le mariage avec sa fille. Pour moi, une union nuptiale double a été acceptée, et une grâce de cette même nature m’a aussi été accordée.»
Lord Shiva (inferred within the Parvati Khanda marriage narrative)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
It presents Shiva’s sankalpa (divine resolve) to enter household life with Parvati, showing that even the Supreme Pati accepts dharmic order and grants/receives boons to uphold cosmic harmony while remaining inwardly transcendent.
The verse emphasizes Saguna Shiva’s līlā—Shiva acting within relationships and vows—helping devotees approach the formless reality through a personal, grace-filled form, which is also the devotional basis for Linga worship.
A practical takeaway is to perform sankalpa with Panchakshara japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and worship Shiva-Parvati together (or the Linga with devotion), praying for Shiva’s anugraha (grace) to align one’s life with dharma.
