Description of the General Battle Between Devas and Daityas

Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Rudra
It depicts the surge of rajasic force—wrath, roar, and blazing energy—showing how even exalted deities act within the drama of cosmic order, while Shaiva thought ultimately points beyond such agitation to Shiva’s supreme, pacifying sovereignty.
Though Viṣṇu is the actor here, the Shiva Purana frames such events to highlight the limits of divine militancy and the need for refuge in Saguna Shiva—worship of the Linga as the stabilizing center where divine powers are harmonized and transcended.
As a counter to anger and inner “flames,” practitioners are implicitly guided toward calming Shaiva disciplines—japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and wearing/handling Rudrākṣa with a steady mind—transforming agitation into devotion and clarity.
