Le malade est délivré de la maladie ; celui que la peur accable est libéré de la peur. L’homme n’est plus tourmenté par les atteintes dues aux bhūtas, pretas et autres troubles de ce genre.
Sūta Gosvāmi (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Bhairava
Significance: Phalaśruti-style assurance: hearing/reciting Śiva-kathā removes disease, fear, and spirit-afflictions; encourages śaraṇāgati to Pati for protection.
Type: stotra
It presents Shiva’s grace as both outer protection (relief from illness, fear, and hostile influences) and inner liberation, indicating that devotion to Shiva loosens the bonds (pāśa) that manifest as suffering and anxiety.
In the Shiva Purana, Linga-worship represents approaching Saguna Shiva with faith and ritual purity; this verse highlights the tangible fruits of such worship—peace, protection, and removal of distress—supporting steady bhakti that matures toward liberation.
Regular Shiva-upāsanā such as japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), worship of the Linga with devotion, and protective Shaiva observances (e.g., bhasma/tripuṇḍra and Rudrākṣa with mantra) are implied as means to dispel fear and affliction.
