गौतमविघ्नप्रकरणम्
Episode of Obstacles to Gautama; Gaṇeśa’s Appearing Through Misguided Worship
उपस्कृतं पुरा यैस्तु तेभ्यो दुःखं हितं न हि । यदा च दीयते दुःखं तदा नाशो भवेदिह
upaskṛtaṃ purā yaistu tebhyo duḥkhaṃ hitaṃ na hi | yadā ca dīyate duḥkhaṃ tadā nāśo bhavediha

It teaches a Shaiva dharma principle: harming those who have been honoured or who are worthy (especially Shiva’s devotees) is adharma and ripens as immediate worldly ruin, reinforcing karma and the need for compassionate conduct.
Linga-worship is inseparable from reverence toward Shiva’s bhaktas and righteous beings; cruelty contradicts devotion. Serving and protecting the honoured aligns with Saguna Shiva’s grace, while inflicting pain invites downfall and blocks spiritual progress.
Practice ahiṃsā and humility alongside daily Shiva-upāsanā—japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with a vow to avoid causing duḥkha, especially during Jyotirlinga pilgrimage or Mahāśivarātri observances.
