Bhaimaśaṅkara-māhātmya: Śiva’s Descent in Kāmarūpa and the Rise of Bhīma

Tattva Level: pasha
It depicts a phase where scriptural dharma becomes eclipsed by egoic power; from a Shaiva Siddhanta lens, when pasha (bondage) dominates, true knowledge is veiled and only Shiva’s grace can re-establish right order and lead beings back toward liberation.
When dharma is obscured, the Purana emphasizes taking refuge in Saguna Shiva—especially Linga worship—as a stable, accessible means to reconnect with the eternal Pati (Shiva) beyond distorted interpretations and to restore sattva through devotion.
A practical takeaway is steady Panchakshara japa ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as disciplines that protect clarity of dharma and orient the mind toward Shiva when external norms are confused.
