Methodical Explanation of the Meaning of Praṇava/Om
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It distinguishes the bound soul (bhoktā) that can dissolve into Prakṛti from Maheśvara, who remains transcendent—teaching that liberation is fulfilled by realizing the Lord beyond Nature and bondage.
Linga-worship directs the mind from identification with Prakṛti and its experiences toward the transcendent Pati (Maheśvara), who is beyond the soul’s entanglement—Saguna worship becomes a doorway to realizing Shiva’s supreme, beyond-Prakṛti reality.
Meditate on Shiva as ‘Para’ (beyond Prakṛti) while repeating the Panchākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—to detach from Prakṛti-based enjoyment and fix awareness in Maheśvara.
