Mantra 7

Agni as the invited sacrificial guest who manifests among men with the gods and removes obstacles to the rite

Rishi: Viśvāmitra (traditional assignment for early Agni-invocations; to be verified against the specific Ārcika anukramaṇī)
Devata: Agni
Chandas: Triṣṭubh (probable; requires confirmation from the corresponding Ṛgvedic source-hymn)

एह्यू षु ब्रवाणि ते ऽग्न इत्थेतरा गिरः एभिर्वर्धास इन्दुभिः

ehyū ṣu bravāṇi te 'gna itthetarā giraḥ ebhirvardhāsa indubhiḥ

ehi1 ū2 ṣu1 bravāṇi1 te2 'gna1 itthā2-itarā1 giraḥ2 ebhi1r vardhāsa1 indu2bhiḥ3

Viens donc, en vérité; à toi, ô Agni, j’adresse ces invocations et d’autres — selon le rite; par elles et par les gouttes de Soma (indu), que ta puissance croisse.

Rathantara (Agneya-prastāva type; common opening-cycle tune)

{ "prastava": "(typical Rathantara-style) stobha-led prelude such as ‘hā/ho’ expansions before the first lexical segment (exact gāna form not supplied)", "udgitha": "Main body carrying ‘ehi… giraḥ…’ with elongations on key vowels (e/ā/u) per gāna tradition", "pratihara": "Responsive reprise/cadential answering phrase (often mirroring the udgītha close)", "upadrava": "After-song reiteration emphasizing offering-words (giraḥ/indu) in compressed form", "nidhana": "Final settling cadence on the last lexical nucleus (indubhiḥ) with communal closure", "structure_notes": "Exact prastāva/udgītha segmentation depends on the Kauthuma gāna-pāṭha for this sāman; absent here, only the standard fivefold liturgical architecture can be stated.", "singer_assignments": "Prastotṛ: prastāva; Udgātṛ: udgītha + upadrava; Pratihartṛ: pratihāra; all three: nidhana." }

{ "gloss_summary": "Sāyaṇa explains indubhiḥ as somarasaiḥ (pressed Soma juices) used in the rite; giraḥ are stutayaḥ (praises). The request is that Agni be increased/strengthened by these.", "ritual_interpretation": "Praises and Soma offerings jointly ‘augment’ Agni so he can carry havis effectively and make the sacrifice successful.", "theological_insight": "Agni grows through being praised and fed; divine presence is not static but ritually intensified—Agni becomes more capable as the yajña proceeds.", "etymology_highlights": "indu: Soma-drop/juice; vardhāsaḥ: ‘increase/strengthening’; dṛś/√brū implied: speech as efficacious act." }
