Agni
Virāḍ-anuṣṭubh
Ce bref hymne relie l’allumage d’Agni à l’allumage de la concorde parmi les hommes : de même que le feu parvient à sa plénitude grâce au combustible rassemblé, ainsi une communauté se fortifie par l’intention réunie. Il prie pour une parole commune, un esprit commun et un rite commun, présentant le yajña comme le moyen pratique de former « une seule conscience » dans la multiplicité.

Mantra 1
संसमिद्युवसे वृषन्नग्ने विश्वान्यर्य आ । इळस्पदे समिध्यसे स नो वसून्या भर ॥
Ô Agni, taureau puissant, jeune, tu croîs par l’allumage rassemblé; apporte ici toutes les forces de l’effort noble. Allumé au siège d’Iḷā, apporte-nous les richesses — les plénitudes de l’être.
Mantra 2
सं गच्छध्वं सं वदध्वं सं वो मनांसि जानताम् । देवा भागं यथा पूर्वे संजानाना उपासते ॥
Allez ensemble; parlez ensemble; que vos pensées s’éveillent à une seule intelligence. Comme les dieux d’autrefois, en concorde, s’unirent et honorèrent leur part, — ainsi unissez-vous dans l’offrande juste de votre œuvre commune.
Mantra 3
समानो मन्त्रः समितिः समानी समानं मनः सह चित्तमेषाम् । समानं मन्त्रमभि मन्त्रये वः समानेन वो हविषा जुहोमि ॥
Un est votre mantra, une l’assemblée, un le mental et une la volonté éveillée en vous tous. Par un même mantra je vous accorde; par une même offrande (havis) je verse l’oblation — afin qu’au sein des nombreux se forme une seule conscience.
