The Slaying of Indrajit

Privé de vie, le héros aux vastes bras demeura immobile : tel le soleil dont les rayons se sont apaisés, tel le feu après son extinction.
Shorn of life, the broad shouldered Indrajith remained on the ground like the Sun whose rays have become cool, after death.
Adharma ultimately collapses: even the most formidable warrior, when aligned with unrighteous causes, meets the end that karma brings.
Indrajit has been killed, and the poem describes his lifeless stillness through powerful natural similes.
Lakṣmaṇa’s steadfastness in righteous combat is implied by the fall of a feared adversary; the verse also underscores the inevitability of mortality.
