War-Council Boasts and Stratagems
अद्यरामंससुग्रीवंपरिघेणसलक्ष्मणम् ।आगमिष्यामिहत्वैकोविक्षोभ्यहरिवाहिनीम् ।।6.8.11।।
adya rāmaṃ sa sugrīvaṃ parigheṇa sa lakṣmaṇam | āgamiṣyāmi hatvaiko vikṣobhya harivāhinīm ||
«Aujourd’hui j’irai seul et, d’une barre de fer, je tuerai Rāma, Sugrīva et Lakṣmaṇa ; puis je reviendrai après avoir jeté dans le trouble l’armée des vānaras.»
"Now I would go alone and with the iron crowbar, kill Sugriva Lakshmana and Rama and return after shattering the Vanara troops."
The verse showcases adharma-like arrogance: a vow rooted in pride and violence, not justice; Dharma demands humility and righteous cause, not boastful destruction.
Prahastha boasts that he can single-handedly strike down Rama and his allies and rout the vānaras.
Negatively framed: it highlights the danger of hubris; the opposing virtue is humility and realistic appraisal.
