मकराक्षवधः
The Slaying of Makarākṣa
दह्यन्तेधृशमङ्गानिदुरात्मन्ममराघव ।यन्मयासि न दृष्टस्त्वंतस्मिन् कालेमहावने ।।।।
dahyante dhṛśam aṅgāni durātman mama rāghava |
yan mayā asi na dṛṣṭas tvaṃ tasmin kāle mahāvane ||
«Mes membres brûlent avec violence, ô Rāghava au cœur mauvais, parce qu’en ce temps-là, dans la grande forêt, je ne t’ai pas vu de mes yeux.»
"O Evil minded Raghava! at that time, I did not see you in D and aka forest. My limbs are burning in anger."
Uncontrolled anger is portrayed as self-consuming (“limbs burn”); dharma counsels mastery over krodha so that action remains aligned with truth and right judgment.
Makarākṣa taunts Rāma and expresses frustration that he did not encounter him earlier in the forest.
The negative counter-example: lack of self-restraint.
