Garuda’s Arrival and the Release from the Serpent-Arrow Bond
विषण्णवदनाह्येतेत्यक्तप्रहरणादिशः ।प्रपलायन्तिहरयस्त्रासादुत्फुल्ललोचनाः ।।6.50.5।।
viṣaṇṇavadanā hy ete tyaktapraharaṇādiśaḥ |
prapalāyanti harayas trāsād utphullalocanāḥ ||6.50.5||
Les troupes des Vānara, le visage abattu de détresse et les armes jetées, s’enfuirent de toutes parts, les yeux écarquillés de frayeur.
"Here, the distressed Vanaras with sad faces, their eyes downcast, are fleeing in all directions abandoning their arms."
Dharma teaching by contrast: fear can dissolve duty; steadfastness in crisis is essential for righteous warfare and collective responsibility.
After the terrifying serpent-arrow event, many Vānara soldiers panic, drop their weapons, and scatter.
The implied virtue is courage (dhairya): the verse highlights its absence to show why disciplined bravery matters.
