Dans le duel sur le champ de bataille, même les dieux ne tiennent pas devant lui ; de qui donc Rāvaṇa irait-il prendre peur en guerre ?
As even gods will not with stand Ravana in war, of whom Ravana will be afraid of in a duel.
The verse illustrates the dharmic warning against pride: boasting that one is beyond fear leads to reckless choices and blinds one to moral accountability.
After rejecting counsel, Rāvaṇa asserts his invincibility, claiming even gods cannot withstand him, thereby justifying continued war.
Negative exemplar: the absence of humility and discernment; the text highlights how hubris undermines wise kingship.
