Sugriva’s Account of Enmity and Appeal to Rama
viṣādād iha māṃ dṛṣṭvā paurair mantribhir eva ca | abhiṣikto na kāmena tan me tvaṃ kṣantum arhasi ||
'Here I was consecrated by the people and ministers who saw me immersed in grief. It was not my desire to be coronated. Therefore, I may be forgiven.
Dharma includes acknowledging constrained choices and seeking reconciliation—Sugrīva appeals to truth (satya) about his lack of ambition and requests forgiveness.
Sugrīva explains that his consecration happened because ministers and citizens acted in crisis, not because he sought the throne.
Humility and willingness to be judged fairly based on intention.
