Karma, Association, and Rebirth

«Que vous tous, devant moi, exposiez la cause de tout cela.» Les cinq aspects répondirent : «De l’occasion de notre conjonction, il ne naît qu’une masse, un amas embryonnaire.»
Pañcātmakāḥ (the fivefold constituents) replying to an unnamed questioner
Concept: Embodiment begins as a piṇḍa produced by the conjunction of the fivefold constituents; form arises from combination, not from an independent material self.
Application: Reduce pride in bodily identity by remembering its composite origin; cultivate compassion toward bodies as temporary formations and invest in sādhana (nāma-japa, seva).

They are the “fivefold” constituents—typically understood as a set of five elemental principles (often aligned with the pañca-bhūtas in Purāṇic/Sāṃkhya-style explanations) speaking collectively about material causation.
Piṇḍa literally means a lump or rounded mass; in context it indicates an initial formed mass—an embryonic or proto-material aggregation—arising from the conjunction of constituents.
The verse frames origination in terms of causation through conjunction: when the relevant constituents combine, the first tangible product is a basic aggregate (piṇḍa), from which further differentiation can proceed.
