The sages (Ṛṣayaḥ)

Concept: Humble inquiry (praśna) and repeated hearing (punar-śravaṇa) are honored as legitimate spiritual methods; greatness is understood through birth, conduct, and cosmic role.

Application: Ask for teachings ‘in detail’ and revisit them; repetition with fresh attention deepens assimilation more than novelty-seeking.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: vira

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A circle of sages in a forest hermitage, their matted locks and deer-skins softly lit, hands folded as they request a detailed narration. In the background, a faint visionary tableau hints at Pṛthu’s royal birth—an infant with a subtle aura, and the Earth as a gentle cow awaiting the righteous king.","primary_figures":["Ṛṣayaḥ (sages)","the narrator-sage (implied addressee)","Pṛthu (visionary hint)","Bhū-devī (symbolic presence)"],"setting":"Forest āśrama with sacred fire, kusa grass seats, palm-leaf bundles, and flowering trees.","lighting_mood":"forest dappled","color_palette":["earth brown","smoke gray","leaf green","saffron","soft gold"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: sages seated around a small yajña-kuṇḍa, palms joined, addressing a central narrator-sage; behind them a gold-leaf vignette shows baby Pṛthu with a radiant halo and Bhū-devī as a cow, ornate arch and gem-like detailing, rich reds and greens with heavy gold accents emphasizing reverent inquiry.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: refined sages under tall trees with delicate leaves, gentle stream nearby, the spokesman sage gesturing in polite request, a pale celestial inset showing Pṛthu’s birth scene, cool greens and blues with warm saffron robes, lyrical calm and anticipation.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: symmetrical assembly of sages with bold outlines, stylized flames of the sacred fire, the lead sage speaking, a circular medallion above depicting Pṛthu and Bhū-devī, traditional red-yellow-green palette and temple-wall aesthetic.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central satsanga of sages framed by lotus borders, peacocks and floral vines, a small narrative panel above with Pṛthu’s birth iconography, deep blue background with gold linework, devotional storytelling mood."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes:

FAQs

The sages are speaking, requesting a detailed account of the birth of a great-souled person and also of King Pṛthu, asking to hear the narrative again.

Pṛthu is a paradigmatic righteous king (rājaṛṣi) associated with the ordering of society and the prosperity of the earth; his story is often used to teach ideals of dharmic governance and stewardship.

It reflects the Purāṇic ideal of repeated listening (śravaṇa) to sacred narratives—revisiting exemplary lives to deepen understanding of dharma, devotion, and right conduct.
