Entering Kāmodā and the Doctrine of Dreams, Sleep, and the Self

Unspecified (context-dependent within Bhūmi-khaṇḍa Adhyaya 120)

Concept: The inner self manifests like a spark from fire, giving rise to both the visible (gross) and invisible (subtle) dimensions of experience.

Application: Use the ‘spark’ contemplation in meditation: observe awareness as luminous and distinct from objects; cultivate devotion so the spark turns toward its source (Paramātman) rather than toward sense-objects.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A great sacrificial fire blazes, and from it a single spark arcs into the air, transforming mid-flight into a tiny luminous human-like silhouette—half visible, half translucent—symbolizing the seen and unseen. The background fades into layers: a tangible world of forms below and an ethereal realm of subtle patterns above, both born from the same radiance.","primary_figures":["symbolic inner self as a spark-silhouette","a Vedic fire (agni) as cosmic source","optional witnessing sage in the periphery"],"setting":"Twilight yajña-ground with altar stones, rising smoke forming mandala-like subtle patterns that hint at the invisible realm.","lighting_mood":"divine radiance","color_palette":["flame orange","molten gold","midnight blue","smoke silver","vermillion red"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: central blazing agni with gold leaf flames; a jeweled spark becoming a tiny radiant figure; below, stylized earthly forms; above, subtle mandalas in embossed gold; rich reds/greens, ornate borders, gem-studded highlights, devotional iconography of cosmic emanation.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: lyrical twilight yajña scene; delicate spark trail; subtle realm suggested by fine cloud-like patterns; cool blues and warm oranges balanced; refined minimalism, gentle hills and trees, poetic naturalism.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: iconic agni with bold outlines; spark rendered as bright dot turning into a stylized figure; layered bands for visible/invisible worlds; strong red-yellow-green palette, temple-wall symmetry and expressive eyes if a sage is included.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central fire-lotus motif; spark as a golden bead transforming into a small luminous form; intricate floral borders, deep blue ground, gold filigree; peacocks and lotuses framing the metaphysical ‘seen/unseen’ duality."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes:

FAQs

It compares the inner Self’s becoming manifest to a spark emerging from fire—appearing and shining forth.

They point to reality as both perceptible (gross/seen effects) and imperceptible (subtle/unseen causes or principles) arising in manifestation.

That manifestation is an expression of the inner principle (antarātmā), which can give rise to both the seen and unseen dimensions of existence.
