FAQs

It frames the stotra as having a definite sacred purpose (kāraṇa) and elevates Vaivasvata/Yama as a divine principle—“sarva-devamaya”—so the hymn is treated as theologically potent rather than merely poetic.

By emphasizing inquiry into a stotra’s inner cause and by acknowledging divinity in the addressed deity, it supports bhakti as informed devotion—praise grounded in understanding and reverence for the divine presence operating through cosmic order.

The verse implicitly highlights correct stotra-prayoga (ritual application of hymns) and the importance of semantic clarity (linked to Vyākaraṇa/Nirukta-style attention to meanings) when reciting or teaching a hymn’s purpose.
