It teaches that tīrtha-merit (tīrtha-phala) depends not only on the act of bathing but on dharmic conduct—especially honoring legitimate parental instruction (pitṛ-vākya), which is treated as a key qualifier for spiritual fruit.
It frames devotion as obedience to dharma and humility: external sacred acts like tīrtha-snānā become spiritually effective when aligned with righteous duty and respect for elders, rather than being done from mere impulse or self-will.
Ritual application (kalpa-style conduct) is implied: the verse gives a procedural rule for yātrā/snānā—eligibility and fruit are conditioned by proper authority and dharmic permission, a common principle in smārta-paddhati and tīrtha-vidhi.
