Adhyaya 22 — Kuvalayashva’s Death through Daitya-Deceit and Madalasa’s Self-Immolation
अहन्यहन्यनुप्राप्ते पूर्वाह्ने नृपनन्दनः ।
ततश्च शेषं दिवसं तया रेमे सुमध्यया ॥
ahany ahany anuprāpte pūrvāhne nṛpanandanaḥ | tataś ca śeṣaṃ divasaṃ tayā reme sumadhyayā
Chaque jour, lorsque venait l’heure de l’avant-midi, le fils du roi accomplissait son devoir; puis, le reste du jour, il se divertissait avec cette dame à la taille gracieuse.

The verse reflects a dharmic sequencing: obligation first, enjoyment afterward. Pleasure (kāma) is not condemned, but placed under the discipline of duty.
