अस्याविदूरे हि धनुर्ध्वजाग्रे यस्य दृश्यते । आचार्यस्यैष पुत्रो वै अश्वत्थामा महारथ:

Transliteration

asyāvidūre hi dhanurdhvajāgre yasya dṛśyate | ācāryasya eṣa putro vai aśvatthāmā mahārathaḥ ||

Translation

Arjuna dit : «Non loin d’ici se tient le guerrier dont la pointe de l’étendard porte l’emblème de l’arc. C’est Aśvatthāmā, le grand combattant de char, le digne fils de l’Ācārya (Droṇa). Il doit être honoré par moi et par tous ceux qui portent les armes ; aussi, même si vous approchez de son char, retirez-vous sans cesse et revenez, en signe de retenue et de respect.»
