Arjuna’s Self-Identification and the Ten Names
Uttara–Arjuna Saṃvāda
भीष्मद्रोणमुखास्तत्र कुरवो रथिसत्तमा: । वित्रस्तमनस: सर्वे धनंजयकृताद् भयात्
bhīṣma-droṇa-mukhās tatra kuravo rathisattamāḥ | vitrasta-manasaḥ sarve dhanañjaya-kṛtād bhayāt ||
Là, les Kuru —les plus grands des guerriers de char, conduits par Bhīṣma et Droṇa— avaient tous le cœur ébranlé, saisis d’effroi par la peur que Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) avait suscitée.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even renowned power and pedigree can falter when confronted by steadfast valor grounded in rightful purpose; fear arises not only from weapons but from the certainty of a capable opponent whose resolve is ethically firm.
The Kuru champions, with Bhīṣma and Droṇa at their head, become inwardly disturbed and fearful because Arjuna’s actions and presence have created a palpable threat, shaking their confidence on the battlefield stage of events.
