Educational Q&A

The verse teaches the expansive moral-religious efficacy of tīrtha-related merit: sincere sacred practice is believed to purify not only the practitioner but also their lineage up to seven generations, emphasizing responsibility to family and continuity of dharma.

Within the Vana Parva’s tīrtha-māhātmya style passages, a speaker praises the power of a sacred place/act, asserting with certainty that its merit purifies a person’s family line up to the seventh generation.
