The verse highlights how māyā (illusion) can destabilize even powerful opponents, implying an ethical warning: strength without discernment is vulnerable, and reliance on pride or mere force can be overturned by deceptive appearances.
Citrāsena (a Gandharva figure in this episode) resorts to the māyāstra and fights using magical illusion; as a result, the Kauravas become confused and lose clarity in the confrontation.
