Vidura’s Counsel to Krishna on the Limits of Peace

The verse highlights the dharmic weight of hospitality and honor toward a guest—especially a revered envoy—while also implying that outward offerings can be politically motivated and do not by themselves guarantee righteous intent.
During Kṛṣṇa’s diplomatic mission in the Udyoga Parva, the Kaurava king ceremonially offers him lodging and even the kingdom, signaling extreme deference and attempting to win favor in a tense pre-war negotiation.
